One Experiment Too Far

Explosions were a common sight in Tony and Remy’s apartment, but this was excessive even for them. Remy was on the couch in their living room, merely enjoying a cheesy anime, when a blood-curdling explosion rocked the building. The world shook like a snowglobe. Remy’s eyes rattled in his head. The resulting chaos nearly flung him from the couch with a surprised cry of alarm, but much to his relief, he remained seated. That is until he caught wind of the violent coughing and labored wheezing from the basement.

“Tony?!” he cried. In an instant, Remy was on his feet. All he had to do was turn around to see what had happened--or at least the final results of it. A billowing puff of multicolored smoke wafted from the basement door just around the corner. It was as thick as cotton candy and even more brightly colored! The puffy cloud had already made its way into the first floor, ready to spread its pink and green tendrils wherever it may please.

But for the time being, all Remy could focus on was scanning the thick cloud for his partner’s coughing form. His eyes darted back and forth before finally settling on a slight hint of movement. Just a ash of Tony’s dark hair was all he needed. “Hang on, I’m coming!” And with that, he rushed right in, pushing past the cloudy mass without a thought for his own safety.

When Tony finally felt Remy’s arms beneath their armpits yanking them away from the basement, the one thought on their mind was, “God I have a good boyfriend,” quickly followed by, “Holy shit I fucked up.” That transition lasted about as long as it took Remy to drag him to the couch, out of the range of any pervading cotton candy clouds.

Soon enough, Tony found himself spread out on the couch cushions. The prismatic dust that clung to his clothing and skin quickly drifted down to the fabric of their couch, a fact that left Remy looking more than a bit moody. His brow was set in a deep glare, an emotion which his arms soon followed suit to match. With them crossed over his chest and his right brow quirked, it was quite obvious what was on his mind.

“Before you say anything… the reaction was supposed to be a lot smaller,” Tony said. He offered a sheepish grin, which instantly eased Remy’s furrowed glare of worry into an exasperated, exhausted smile. “Seriously, I have no idea what happened there.”

“You know, you could just do less explosive experiments,” Remy replied with a small chuckle.  He flopped onto the couch beside his partner, unabashedly wrapping an arm around their dirtied shoulders. “What is that? Third one this month?” Behind them, an electric whirr sputtered to life. Tony’s personal ventilation system was created for exactly this purpose. It came in handy quite often.

Letting his head op against Remy’s chest, Tony flashed a true mad-scientist grin back at their boyfriend. “Oh please; not a chance~” They both knew this was far from the end of their experiments… and somehow, Remy didn’t quite mind.

And then, before the two could get even comfier… a wave of dizziness rushed over Tony. Their eyes grew wide as vertigo overtook their senses. “T-Tony?” Remy yelped, but his voice seemed strangely far away.

Then, in an instant, it was over. Tony shook their head with a frown, further dusting the fabric of their couch cushions with hopefully-nonstaining chemicals. “Uh, no it’s nothing. Just a bit of smoke inhalation I think.” It felt weird, but nothing too taxing.

So, with that, they jumped to their feet with only the slightest hint of unbalance and turned around to face Remy. “Well, can’t get back into the lab until tomorrow. Are you feeling takeout for dinner?”

Remy balked, then began to snicker as he stood. Evidently, he saw no need to comment on his partner’s condition, instead of nodding to the dinner suggestion. “Alright, but I pick the place tonight. You can’t keep blowing up the house and getting your favorite food out of it.” There was no need to worry. After all, Tony was sure it was ne. As long as he was con dent, everything would be okay.

Tony was no longer feeling all that confident.

Bright, warm light spun golden tethers from the window to Tony’s face. Birds chirped a wondrous song. There wasn’t a single lawnmower running, nor a plane in the sky. By all accounts, it was a perfect day. That just made it all the more di cult to admit something was oh so very wrong.

Tony’s nose wrinkled as they regarded Remy’s slightly-fuzzy arms before their eyes. Their boyfriend was still snoozing peacefully behind them, each of his breaths whispering to him as if asking to stay in bed just a tiny bit longer. Most days, Tony would have continued to spoon and snuggle well into the morning. But today… well, they knew what spooning with Remy was supposed to feel like, and this was not it.

Remy’s arms felt longer as if they had to push ever so slightly forward to wrap around his torso. His chest was like a broad pillow against Tony’s head, heartbeat pounding like a gentle drum. But most nights, Tony and Remy slept at the same elevation, Remy’s breath against Tony’s neck. They never should have been able to sleep against Remy’s chest while his feet were at their boyfriend’s shins!

Fortunate or not, Tony knew right away what the problem was. After all, his experiments tended to revolve around one particular subject. They cleared their throat and reached up around Remy’s broad arms, gently tapping the now-larger man awake.  The sleepy, barely-aware grumblings that followed were all the cue Tony needed. “Hey, Remy? I’m shrinking.”

Shrinking wasn’t the problem in a sense. Tony had been tiny before. Absolutely minuscule in fact! But those times were a result of their direct choice; an effect they could undo at once (with a few notable, almost cartoonish exceptions). They’d used shrink rays, chemical concoctions, and even a magic spell on one or two occasions. They just never dealt with constant, slow-paced shrinking before.

Frustration mounted on Tony’s features as they stretched as far as their legs would carry them. Their limbs strained as if trying to extend like a superhero, but alas, not a thing happened. The dark, re-resistant shelf above them remained painfully out of reach, a fact which caused Tony’s face to tighten with every passing second.

Then, a shadow passed overhead, blocking out their lab’s semi-natural lighting. “Is this what you needed?” Remy asked. In no time at all, his arm descended with a silver jug labeled Fenestrane. Thick, turbid liquid sloshed within.

Tony took the jug in their hands, though with a slight grumble of annoyance. “Yeah, that’s the one…” They stepped away from the chemical shelves and marched toward the work desk, prize in hand. Remy followed behind, his steps clapping nonchalantly behind his partner. Tony winced with each slap of his soles against the tile. They were intently aware of the difference in height between themselves and Remy by now, and not being able to reach high shelves didn’t help.

Normally, he and Remy were both just shy of 5’8, give or take a few inches based on wherever Tony’s latest experiment landed them. However, Tony no longer rose above their boyfriend’s chest after a mere 8 hours! Worry etched itself across their face as calculations bubbled in their head. If they couldn’t figure this out soon…

No! Tony shook their head with a determined glare, setting the last chemical on his work desk and hopping up into their chair. They were a scientist! Some shrinking mishap wouldn’t get in their way! With a grin on their face, they began to mix.

Tony grumbled and rolled up their sleeves for the fourth time that day. The soft material of their lab coat was normally a calming and familiar sensation. Now, it was nothing more than a reminder of how much height they’d lost.

Tony’s lab stretched out around them like a funhouse. Everything was out of reach; from the low shelves to the mere tables that filled their space! This was starting to feel impossible! But no, they couldn’t give into panic. Tony stopped, took a deep breath, and--

--their sleeves slipped right back down and plapped to the floor. Their arms couldn’t even reach the elbow crease any longer, a fact which quirked Tony’s last nerve to no end. “God damn it--”

“You know, you look pretty adorable like that,” Remy lilted from a nearby chair. It was one of the few seating areas in the lab, and Remy had set to giving it a full workout while he watched Tony scurry about. Tony themselves whipped their head around, a glare set on their brow. Remy shrugged and chuckled from his place splayed out on the recliner. “What? Come on, it couldn’t hurt to fool around a little bit, right?”

Upon hearing that, Tony’s eyes darted semi-involuntarily to Remy’s groin. There stood a quite noticeable bulge in his underwear; a twitching, pulsing rod that was fighting to escape its cloth enclosure.

Oh, how Tony wanted to say yes. But science waits for no man! Especially one who had about half a week before shrinking into a speck. But to get along with an antidote… Tony would have to swallow their pride. “Not now, but… ugh…” They took a deep breath, composing themselves for what was to come. “Can you help me? Please?”

Remy grinned and hopped up from the couch in an instant. “All you had to do was ask, cutie!”

“This one, right?” Remy asked. His voice seemed to rumble behind Tony as if his every word carried a billowing wave of distant thunder. Most days, Tony would have been turned on enough to shoot rope on the spot from the sound of such a powerful voice. But then again, most days they weren’t a foot tall.

Tony nodded and pointed toward the vial of greenish-brown liquid on the verge of bubbling over. The sleeves of their shirt hung o their arms like wet towels, but they couldn’t be distracted by such a thing now. No matter how aggravating it was. “Yeah, take it o the burner the second it starts to boil, then wait precisely 30 seconds to pour it into the orange tank.”

A hum of discomfort billowed from Remy’s chest as he mentally logged Tony’s instructions. “Man, I don’t know how you keep this straight every day,” he chuckled. His chest bounced against the back of Tony’s skull, a reminder that they were no longer tall enough to work on their own. They’d been reduced to sitting in their boyfriend’s lap. Practically a toddler on Take Your Kid to Work Day!

Tony themselves couldn’t help but grimace. Even he had trouble tracking all of this. But they believed in Remy! At that very moment, the vial began to bubble in earnest, and the much-taller man snatched it from its stand in an instant while setting a timer with their free hand. This had to work… right?

Just then, Remy saw t to intervene. His hand--now much heavier and all-encompassing--landed atop

Tony’s soft head of hair with a comforting pat and rub. “Hey, don’t worry. We’ll figure it out, alright?” Tony tilted their head back the moment Remy lifted his hand. In an instant, their heartbeat steadied. The warmth that radiated from Remy’s smile… it put just enough faith back into Tony’s chest to bring a smile back to his face.

The next morning, Tony woke up on their boyfriend’s chest a mere six inches tall. They only took a moment to understand their surroundings before rushing up the warm hill of skin with a cry of alarm. And of course, Remy being the attentive boyfriend he is, shot awake. “What? What’s going on?!” he cried. Of course, he shot up in bed too.

An act which left Tony to tumble helplessly down his chest and belly, right onto a very warm, pulsing spire. Remy, against his better judgment, moaned in delight as Tony’s fingers scrabbled for a hold on his cockhead. “Man, that feels good…” The pink skin beneath Tony’s fingers throbbed and loosed a fresh volley of slick precum. It was perfect for dousing his hands before Remy reached down to pluck him up in his fist.

A sheepish grin was on Remy’s face. “I uh, don’t suppose we can have some fun with that, right?” Tony glared. “Right, right! To the lab!”

That night, Tony was a mere three inches tall and no closer to figuring out how to reverse these effects. They stared up at Remy from his place on the kitchen table, lost in thought as the much-larger man chewed his steak. He seemed so much bigger than he used to—even at this size! Maybe that’s what happens when you know that one thing is all you’re ever going to see soon enough.

A slight, grumbling sound left Tony’s throat as they bit into their piece of bread.

A day later, still no progress. Remy and Tony worked well into the night, so much longer than they ever dared to stay up before, but still, no miracle cure arrived. As Remy climbed into bed, Tony tried to give him a reassuring smile with his fingertip. Well, before remembering that Remy would be incapable of seeing their facial expressions anymore.

“We still have at least 23 hours until I’m past the realm of visibility!” Tony shouted. Their lungs were raw from all the screaming they’d had to do that day, but Remy couldn’t hear them otherwise. As it was, Remy could only hear his partner if he really concentrated. He held his finger outstretched before his nose, focusing as hard as he could on the little half-inch bug of a person on the nail.

“Get some sleep!” Tony shouted again. “We can’t do anything until morning anyway.”

Remy offered him a warm, drive-in-theater-screen-sized smile. “We’re going to figure this out tomorrow, I can feel it!” For once, Tony was glad their expression couldn’t be seen. They didn’t have much pressure to hide the grimace on their face.

“I love you!” They put even more force into that than before. If nothing else, they wanted to be sure Remy heard that.

“I love you too.” And with that, Remy laid down and put Tony right on his chest, in the valley of flesh that would soon become a literal canyon. The shrunken scientist climbed o and looked about their surroundings, noting the cut stalks of hair just under half their height jutting from every foot of space.

They’d have to get used to the fact that those would be the size of skyscrapers by the end of the night.

Tony took a deep breath, then began to walk. All the while, shrinking into nothingness. Their calculations had been generous, for Remy’s sake. They’d known all week that this would be the night their shrinking would become near-permanent. Already, Remy’s hair was growing around them, burgeoning from grass into small logs.

Remy’s chest rose and fell in steady pulses by the time Tony reached the edge of the plateau. Good, he was asleep. Ahead lay his belly; a much softer landscape that rose nearly 20 feet higher with each breath. Tony’s balance swayed with each inhale, but hey, they had all the time in the world to adjust.

By the time Tony reached Remy’s treasure trail, it was a dense rainforest of stalks thicker than their leg. They were glad Remy slept in the nude. Getting into his underwear would have been a hundred times harder! They opted to burrow right into the tangled mass of wiry hairs. After all, it wouldn’t be too hard to slip between them soon enough.

And at last, when the first bit of daylight began to seep through Remy’s pubic hair, Tony reached their destination. They couldn’t see the horizon any longer—even the shaved hairs of Remy’s ballsack made that impossible. He stood in the shadow of one such stalk. It was over ten times his height, and twice as thick as that. Before him lay a canyon of space, a yawning trench that would be impossible for him to even leap across! Nothing more than a wrinkle in their boyfriend’s balls. Soon to be his entire world.

Oh well. Tony was sure they could adjust. And who knows? Maybe by the time they reached the subatomic scale, they could just mix an antidote from the atoms in Remy’s cum. Wouldn’t that be an adventure?
