Enyo's Tiny Plaything

A man tries to track down and observe a kaiju code-named Enyo at a distance. Due to his recklessness, he finds the kaiju, but gets too close for comfort before Enyo decides to play with him like a bug.

Enormous pawprints remained scattered across the desert sands.

A far smaller vehicle followed the footprints. As it darted across the contours created by each one, the driver inside spoke on a radio.

"No visual on the kaiju yet." he said, steering to the right. "Over."

"Just observe at a distance if you see them..." replied a feminine voice on the other end. "And be careful, Adam. This kaiju might be more intelligent and dangerous than the mere feral ones. Out."

With an electronic crackle, the radio fell silent. Adam focused on the path ahead and weaved around the gigantic pawprints, veering his steering wheel from left to right. Even smaller imprints formed by the kaiju’s individual toes acted as threats amid the sand dunes due to completely outsizing the vehicle itself. Adam only slowed down his truck once the footprints in the distance randomly ended in the middle of nowhere.

He toggled his radio again. “The kaiju’s tracks have stopped, but not anywhere near a body of water. I’m going to investigate, but assume the worst if you don’t hear back from me. Out.”

“Terrible idea.” said a more masculine voice on the other end. “Just mark where the tracks end and return to-”

Adam flicking a switch deactivated the radio, cutting the other man off.

From there, the truck approached where the pawprints came to an end. Something strange caused an anomaly where his visual of the distance grew increasingly contorted and distorted as if a sudden heat wave erupted. Adam squinted his eyes as a result. He spotted an odd mound and a much more massive imprint in the sand itself. Circling around the anomaly, something glared to his left before he reached the apparent head of it all.

The truck then stopped altogether. Adam raised an eyebrow as he gazed upon a large figure glimmering and distorting within his immediate view. It occasionally fell and rose as a strange sound similar to snoring filled the air. Grabbing hold of his camera, he opened the door to his vehicle and stepped outside, slamming the door shut before walking away from it.

The snoring suddenly stopped.

A shimmer marked the moment the kaiju revealed itself. Any cloaking or invisibility gave way to a gargantuan creature lying on their stomach. Brown fur and tan scales made them resemble an odd hybrid between a canine and a snake. Most prominently, huge green eyes shot wide open, staring right at the tiny man and the truck beneath them as the two came face to face.

Adam recoiled. “Fuck me!” he said, taking a step back. “Enyo?!”

The aforementioned kaiju made a wry, catlike smile. Their ears perked up as they raised their head. A blep escaped their snout as their forked tongue smelled and tasted the air.

Meanwhile, Adam stayed petrified. He was like an insect compared to Enyo’s sheer size.

Without warning, the kaiju’s jaws went agape. Adam reeled at the sight since a snakelike maw lined with razor sharp teeth entirely enveloped his vision. Enyo’s extremely long and titanic tongue also curled up as they let out a yawn, blasting the tiny man and his truck with lukewarm morning breath that overwhelmed his senses. Following this, Enyo flicked their tongue several times, returning their full attention to Adam with curiosity in their glimmering eyes.

Adam almost fell over, dropping his camera as it hit the sand. He gradually turned around. Before he could even attempt to walk back to his vehicle, a large hand shadowed over him, blocking the sun itself. Fingertips then descended from the sky. Within moments, Enyo utilized two clawed fingers to begin crushing the truck outright, rupturing the roof and windows as metallic crackling and crunching erupted from the frame. This commotion only ended once Enyo started flattening the other two ends, causing the previously purring engine to sputter before it stopped functioning altogether, leaving behind a flattened hunk of metal.

Once more, Adam made a one-eighty to face the kaiju responsible. Enyo had quite a pleased look on their face as they made another toothy smirk, and six small holes serving as nostrils on their snout flared a few times.

He held up his hands. “Easy boy… or uh… girl. Whatever you are…”

Enyo responded by partially lowering their head behind a sizable sand dune, where only their upper snout and eyes became visible. Their tail also wagged behind them and created reverberating rattling noises like a cobra. A single hand ascended to the sky again, soon transitioning to a single index finger pointing at Adam before swirling around his location.

His heart skipped a beat.

After lingering in the air, the finger changed to looming over him. It slowly came closer and closer. Once Adam saw this, he backed away, but the padded fingertip resumed coming toward his location nonetheless. It encouraged him to sprint in the polar opposite direction. Enyo's other hand slammed down with an open palm to block his path forward, kicking up plentiful sand and making him stumble for several seconds.

The padded finger chasing Adam only slowed down once it was about to finally reach him. He darted to the side, dodging the fingertip before it smooshed his previous position and created another large imprint in the sand.

As Adam tried to recover and catch his breath, Enyo let out a sound similar to snickering or giggling. They held up their hand again and wiggled their fingers in the sky. Adam looked up at the kaiju and their cheerful green eyes with both shock and confusion apparent on his face.

"Are you… playing with me?" he asked with his hands on his knees. "Is that why you destroyed my truck? To toy with me?"

Enyo's only response came in the form of their tail wagging more like a puppy dog.

Their hand changed to extending two fingers outward. As before, they lowered them to Adam in a slow and gradual ordeal. Adam didn't even bother moving beyond taking a few steps back, staring at the hand with nothing but defiance. The fingers eventually encircled the area around him, pressing into the sand before harmlessly lifting away from him.

"I'm not very fond of this game…" he said to himself more than anyone else. "Can you even hear or understand me?"

Enyo frowned. They finally lifted their head, revealing their full form. Adam could do nothing but recoil and shield his face from all the force as Enyo's huge body created shockwaves in the sand from every little movement. By the time it all ended, Adam opened his eyes to find Enyo sitting on the ground. Their feet with canine paws flanked him on both sides while each of their hands pressed into the sand in front of him.

“Crap.” he said with bared teeth.

One leg abruptly extended upward. This allowed Enyo to hover a foot in the air as they scrunched up their toes. Afterward, it lowered toward Adam, prompting him to run away from both it and the resulting shadow it made over the area. Enyo simultaneously used the other foot to block a direct path in the opposing direction, making Adam stop and pivot in place to find similarly large hands moving in to cut off any additional avenues of escape.

One hand slammed next to Adam’s position like a karate chop. The subsequent shockwave made him trip and slide across the sand, making him fall over. He let out a grunt. Once Adam rolled onto his back, he saw a digitigrade foot with a caramel brown paw mere moments away from stepping on him as it blocked most direct sunlight. He covered his face and body with both arms while in a fetal position, looking away before freezing altogether. In response, Enyo spread out their toes before lowering their foot to the ground, making a light but audible thump upon stepping on the ground.

Adam only opened his eyes once everything became silent. “What the…”

He stopped speaking after opening his eyes, finding himself between two toes. Enyo let out another odd laugh before wiggling them, shifting both Adam and the sands surrounding him. They lifted their foot away following this. Some sand grains fell from their paw and toe beans like rain as it dusted over Adam, leaving behind yet another kaiju footprint.

Once Adam regained his bearings, Enyo returned to their previous position. He spent some time staring in shock and awe at the fresh footprint and the clear imprint it made in the sand to such a point it posed a danger if he fell inside a hole created by just a toe. Meanwhile, Enyo smiled and pressed a finger against one of their paws, making their toes scrunch up and fully revealing the claws on their feet as if to tease him.

“Are you going to kill me once you’re done having your fun?” asked Adam, doing his best to dust the sand off his clothes. “I’m tempted to stop playing if it means you’ll just get it over with…”

Enyo’s eyes went wide. They shook their head side to side, frowning.

Their reaction made Adam blink several times. “Wait. You… understand me?”

Enyo smiled again and nodded in the affirmative.

He didn’t say a word for a while. “What do you want?”

To answer this question, Enyo lowered a hand to the ground. They pointed with their other free hand and gestured Adam towards their open palm.

“You want me to walk on your hand now?” Adam asked, almost finding himself at a loss for words. “After whatever that was earlier?”

Enyo nodded once more.

“Great then…” he said, sighing. “This better not be another game. I’m already mad about what happened to my vehicle, especially since I thought you were trying to kill me.”

At these words, Enyo looked away with their ears folding down.

Adam then approached Enyo’s hand with great hesitation. He had to climb up the side of their finger, vaulting himself over to the top. Upon getting back on his feet, he made his way to the center of the padded palm, only freezing once Enyo took the opportunity to pick him up.

“Woah woah woah!” he said in rapid succession. “What are you doing now?!”

Enyo gave him his answer by gradually raising a hand to their muzzle. A slight tilt threw off Adam’s balance. Once again, Enyo used a free hand to point at him, then at their snout for emphasis.

He let out another sigh before his blood pressure stopped rising. “Oh, so now you want me to walk onto your nose too?”

Rather than responding, Enyo simply stared at Adam with both of their unblinking eyes.

“Blink once for no and twice for yes.” Adam said, crossing his arms.

Without further delay, Enyo blinked two times.

He rubbed his eyes. “Wonderful.”

After waiting for several seconds and recomposing himself, Adam strolled from the open palm to the edge of Enyo’s snout. Six nostrils flared again at his presence. Enyo only lowered their hand once Adam made his way to the middle of their snout, where they could see him at all times with both eyes.

Enyo reacted with nothing but glee as they smiled.

“Okay… so what now?” Adam asked, raising his arms as if surrendering.

Enyo let out a happy hiss and closed their eyes. Their tail wagged behind them and made more bizarre rattling sounds as they walked forward with the tiny human man on their muzzle, essentially traveling in the desert together.

The change in gravity made Adam sit on the snout, scooting closer to Enyo’s face to avoid falling. He stroked the muzzle to the best of his ability. “Ugh. The others aren’t going to approve of any of this, Enyo. Not at all.”

Rather than saying a word, Enyo slightly stuck out their tongue to form a blep, occasionally looking at Adam and his tiny physical form with nothing but adoration in their emerald green eyes.
