Dinner Party

Friendship has its dangers.
“You think you could run and grab some more wine from the liquor store?”
Drew’s ears flicked and he looked up from placing some appetizers down on the table. Cooper was standing in the door to the kitchen, holding a single small bottle up so that he could see it. His roommate frowned, the almost comically large paws that the lion sported made any normal sized object look miniature. “I just don’t think this will be enough… and I was expecting someone to bring wine… we usually have too much…”
“Yeah I’ll grab some” Drew said, grinning a bit at his friend’s tendency to overreact over smaller details. “Just give me a minute here to finish setting up… Should I grab anything else while I’m out?”
The two of them went over possible necessities while some of the others flooded into the dining room. The party was technically ongoing, but their gatherings always just tended to be a couple smaller groups mingling and chatting amongst themselves. Jenny the bear and Ethan the dalmatian were talking near the hallway, while Mark the cat was sitting at the table and idly picking at potato chips while staring at his phone. A few others were in an adjacent room, too far away for Drew to hear what they were talking about.
Drew placed the last of the smaller snacks down, his Hyena paws much more compact and less prone to clumsy blunders than Cooper was. He sighed and admired his setup, only taking a second to frown over at Mark, who had leaned over to pull more food in his direction.
“Alright I’ll be right back” He said, mostly to Jenny and Ethan, “Gotta grab a few more things. Feel free to start without me!”
They nodded, smiling back at him as if to acknowledge Cooper’s perfectionism. Drew had known everyone here for at least a few years now, with the group having formed itself as they all went through college and stayed together once it was over. Individual quirks and habits were all well known among them all.
He didn’t see his friends quite as often as he did when they were all in school together, so he wanted to get this errand done as quickly as possible so he could rejoin the party. He walked past Jenny and Ethan, the bear looking like she was making for the food, and headed down the hall towards the front door.
Drew took a quick detour into his bedroom. He strode over towards his bed and started fishing through the open drawer of the bedside table for some cash… when he heard his door click closed behind him.
Drew stood up straight, turning around and flinching a bit to see Ethan leaning up against his door. Drew lifted a hand to his heart and let out a breath. “Oh, you startled me… Do you need something?”
The dalmatian just nodded without another word, and took a couple of steps further into the room. Drew watched him, feeling just the slightest bit odd, and opened his mouth with the intention of asking what was wrong.
“Got a second before you head out?” He asked, “I wanted to ask you something…”
Drew tilted his head, nodding slowly as he watched Ethan reach for something in his pocket. A small metal box was pulled free, glowing faintly green. Drew leaned forward, squinting to try to get a good look at what it was when Ethan lifted his paw into the air and leveled the device directly before Drew’s face.
The hyena didn’t even get a chance to gasp before a blinding green light flooded his field of view…
And he started falling…
Ethan clicked the button on the shrink ray, the light blinding even to his own eyes such that he had to blink the spots out before getting a decent look at what was happening to Drew. The hyena had tumbled down, slumped to the ground, with his clothing getting baggier by the second. Ethan licked his lips, tail wagging involuntarily behind him for a second or two, as he got down on his haunches to watch his friend’s body shrink.
The greyish fur dragged across the ground as his size was reduced, soon completely tucked inside his shirt and reduced to a bulge in the fabric. Ethan lifted the clothing and reached for the tiny hyena inside, dragging his light and fragile form free and waiting until the process was complete.
Drew fit inside Ethan’s grip, eyes closed and too disoriented to know what was going on. Not wanting to draw too much suspicion about where he was, he slowly pushed Drew’s door open to peek out and make sure the coast was clear. He took a moment to kick Drew’s clothing under his bed before slipping out, hugging the wall and listening for the chatter echoing from the dining room before slipping into the nearby bathroom.
He shut the door behind him, heart beating with exhilaration, and reached for the switch that controlled the noisy fan overhead. The white noise rumbled on, and he pressed his floppy ear against the door, making sure he was adequately unable to hear much outside of this room.
In his paw, Drew began to stir.
Ethan shut the lid of the toilet and sat down upon it, holding Drew up in his palm and watching as the tiny little micro slowly got his bearings. The little hyena gasped and flinched a few times as he was hit with realization after realization. His head darted from side to side, meeting Ethan’s eyes more than once and looking at him with confusion and uneasiness.
The dalmatian snickered to himself, making sure to keep his voice at least somewhat quiet as he pulled the hyena up closer to his face.
“Drew… My Drew.” He said, emphasizing the ‘My’. “I’m really, really looking forward to this party…”
Drew babbled a bit, trying to shout but failing to get his voice loud enough to overcome the fan. Ethan dragged his fingers along Drew’s body, squeezing him just a bit around the middle and making him gasp himself to silence.
“Now now… You’re going to want to save your energy, trust me.” He said, easing his grip and watching the tiny hyena stare up at him with his cute wide eyes. “I’ll explain fast, cause the others will be looking for us pretty soon.”
“I’m going to swallow you alive.” He started, causing the hyena to whine loudly in his grip. Ethan gently squeezed him again, lifting him a little closer to his face. “Shh shh shh… Let me finish, this won’t take long. I’m going to swallow you alive. One gulp, and your tiny little body will just…” He paused, tipping his head up and dragging finger down his neck. He traced the path down to his belly, letting his hand hover there for a brief moment before patting his pudge and letting it jiggle for a short second. Drew was staring, feet and tail fidgeting in Ethan’s grip.
Gosh, but he looked nervous!
“After that, I’ll rejoin the party like nothing happened, with you tucked away riiiiight here... We’ll be around our friends, and they’ll surely be looking for you.” Ethan said, prompting Drew to whine again, “Wiggle and shout as much as you can… Because if they figure out where you are, they’ll definitely make me spit you back up.”
“But if they don’t find you… If I win this little game… Then I’m keeping you.”
Drew felt his whole body tremble.
Ethan’s massive black and white spotted face was just out of arms reach. His breath wafted warmly over him, the scent of old meat and at least one beer hung in the air. Soon to… soon to cloak him in full.
The hyena trembled, stuck in the denial that his friend was really about to do what he said he was going to do… But as small as he was now… He didn’t know what to believe. Drew squirmed in the dalmatian’s grip, trying to pry the greedy fingers off of him, but they just kept relentlessly curling in over his body and holding him in place.
The effort was exhausting, and he wanted to shout and alert the others, but the bathroom fan was rattling loudly away over his head, and he stifled the instinct. He… he would need to preserve his strength… If Ethan was really telling the tr-
Drew gasped as he looked down. His body had just rapidly moved through the air, and the dalmatian had placed him right above his slowly parting maw. Drew glanced pleadingly down at the dog’s eyes, staring back up at him with an impish and possessive glint. The massive pink cavern spread wide beneath his dangling feet, and he whined involuntarily as his heart started to race.
It was all he could do… He just stared at the soft pink flesh. A slimy funnel of meat leading to darkness, pointing down to Ethan’s waiting throat. The dog let him dangle, legs swaying and heart racing, knowing that it was only a matter of time. Knowing that all it would take was for Ethan to part his fingers and Drew’s whole body would just fall right into his mouth. He twisted in the dalmatian’s grip, glancing back at the door and hoping it would open…
Hoping… hoping…
He felt the pressure start to relent and immediately started squirming in Ethan’s grip. His friend’s maw was spread out wide, tongue hanging out and eye’s wide with delight. The fingers released him, and Drew gasped as he dropped for the duration of a single second before he was completely enveloped in slimy humid warmth.
The hyena whined, back splatting down against the dalmatian’s thick tongue, and felt himself guided down between the dog’s sharp teeth. He flipped over, his bare front side pressing down over Ethan’s hot flesh as he tried to crawl back up and out. The dog poked at his head with the tip of his tongue, humming softly to himself and letting the playful notes echo from deep within the meaty cave. He tried to climb up, but kept getting tipped back, his progress undone by the slightest of Ethan’s efforts.
Already getting tired, Drew willed his tiny arms to work, heaving him up, reaching endlessly for the way back out, but his friend was having none of it. The dalmatian lifted his nose, pointing his open maw up at the ceiling. The hyena stared up at the light, the fan, all framed by teeth and tongue and the short tufts of white fur that was still visible to him. He heard a soft whine escape from the back of his throat as his body slid down, with nowhere else for him to go.
Ethan slowly closed his maw, letting Drew protest and struggle against the slimy muscles. He slipped further downward, his legs cupped gently by the dog’s throat, and soon crumpled up into a tiny trembling ball. Held feebly in place by his friend’s tongue, Drew’s heart was hammering in his chest, struck with disbelief that this was really… really about to happen.
Ethan’s jaws sealed shut, forcing the light out of the wet pink chamber and leaving behind only darkness. The heat was locking in, the warm swampy air getting more intense by the second, and Drew was forced to breathe it all in. The stench of Ethan’s breath, wafting up endlessly around him, and knowing that it would only get worse. The muscles around him started to loosen, and he felt even more heat radiating up around his soaking wet legs.
Drew gasped, whining and moaning as he slammed his fists down over Ethan’s tongue, but the dog did not reverse course. The hyena slipped down, legs nearly swallowed up, and clung helplessly to the thick muscle right before him.
A short whimper echoed throughout cavernous maw as Drew’s friend swallowed him alive. The hyena shouted while he could, flesh crashing in over his head and mouth the very next second, and immediately found himself winding down the long narrow tube to the dalmatian’s stomach.
He did it… he really did it!? Drew squeezed his eyes shut in the darkness, gulp after gulp echoing up over his head as flesh compressed and squeezed over him, pulling and forcing his tiny helpless body down in the tight throat. He felt himself dragged deeper, pulled along by Ethan’s muscles and guided down towards his waiting stomach.
Drew bent and writhed inside the dog’s esophagus, reaching and grasping for any slight fold in the meat the wrapped around him. His fingers could find no purchase, his arms barely even able to bend and search for a way back up. Drew tried to shout, tried to call for help, but his face was cupped so tightly that he couldn’t open his mouth without slimy meat pressing in between his own lips.
Opting to keep himself still and just endure the trip down, Drew seized up. His legs were pinned together, breaching through the flesh as the tightly joined fold were pushed apart to accommodate his sliding body. He fell for what felt like minutes, dragged along in the darkness, pushed deeper into Ethan’s body as the heat kept somehow intensifying until Drew felt like he could endure no more.
His feet met the briefest kiss of resistance, held up before a harder ring of flesh circling around them, before starting to slide again. He slid down even faster than before as his body was unceremoniously deposited down in the dalmatian’s stomach. Drew whined again, unable to stop himself from doing so, as he pictured the big guy out in the open world. He recalled the image of his friend tapping his gut, telling him flat out he’d be crammed down inside there, and knowing without a shadow of a doubt, that this had become his reality.
Drew plopped down inside the fleshy compartment, his knees splashing through slimy putrid liquids while he let his body slip through. He pulled in a deep breath, gagging at the scent and thickness in the air. He pressed his dripping wet paws against his face, trying to wipe the slime from his body, but every surface within his reach was coated in mucus and juices, so there was little point.
The stomach was barely big enough to house him. Drew pushed his arms out to his sides, encountering resistance with both of them before his elbows were even half-bent. He tried to stand up, but his head hit the stomach ceiling before he could fully straighten himself out. This was really it… he had really been swallowed alive… and by Ethan!
He shouted, coughing after just a second of it. His voice had barely carried, and the assaulting intensity of the atmosphere in here made it much harder to accomplish than he had expected. He drew in as deep a breath as he could manage, intending to do it again, when his knees slipped out from under him as the dog’s stomach lurched into motion.
Rhythmic thuds and sways started rocking Drew’s prison, heaving and lurching as Ethan moved around back out around his home. Drew whined, thinking again about where he was trapped and hoping he’d be able to get everyone else to get him out! Ethan walked, the flesh around Drew bouncing and jostling with each step he took, and it was all he could do to just hold still when every surface around him was impossibly slippery.
The new rumbling sensation vibrated up around him and Drew flinched, startled, and glanced around as he tried to piece together what was happening. The rumbling continued… Not the growling stomach… but a voice. Ethan was talking.
Drew closed his eyes, trying to concentrate, and sure enough being able to pick out what the dalmatian was saying.
“… in a few minutes?” The voice said, distorted and distant, but certainly from his friend.
“….ah… e’re go.. it… ave m… appe..zers… ….” Another voice said, much harder to make out from here.
“HEEEY!” Drew managed, lurching in the direction he hoped was the Ethan’s front and heaving his body hard against the stomach wall. “HELP! Help me! Ethan ate me, heeelp!!”
Drew started coughing again, gagging on the stench as he slopped down in the thick juices, already out of breath. But gosh that was unexpectedly hard to do… He perked his ears, trying to pick out the voice that had been talking, but didn’t hear anything.
A wave of defeat nearly sucked the hope of out him. Drew breathed in slowly, trying to build his strength back up again, and decided to wait until he could hear that someone else was nearby before trying that again. The stomach gurgled around him, making him flinch and recoil from his position with his paw pressed up against the wall. The sound was deafening, taking over his entire world and driving home the point that Ethan had just reduced him down to no more than food.
He whined again, the pathetic sound certainly not even close to audible back out beyond Ethan’s guts, and waited for the commotion to pass. The sound dwindled away, replaced by distant laughter as others in the room apparently took amusement to the dalmatian’s hunger. Drew thumped his paws against the wall, not shouting yet but hoping he could make a visible dent in Ethan’s stomach and alert someone.
His arms flailed, hammering forcefully against the flesh before he gave in and started jumping around again. He pushed himself off as best he could, nearly slipping and just falling back down among the slimy juices, and drove his shoulder up against the elastic barrier. Ethan’s stomach absorbed his effort, pushing back at his side and face and forcing him to remain enclosed in the cramped stomach.
Drew yelled out, ignoring words and just trying to make as loud a noise as possible. He shouted until his throat was hoarse, the sound dwindling away after a few moments and leaving him with the constant squelching and dripping noises that surrounded him. Could anyone hear him? Were his efforts for nothing?
…He… He had to get out of here!
Ethan was on the move again, and Drew slipped to fall on his back once more. Juices coated him as he was sloshed along for the ride, eyes shut and arms wrapped tight over his own head. The dalmatian’s stomach lurched, swinging and swaying, until the movement came to a stop and he could hear voices once again.
Cooper… that was definitely Cooper!
“…as Drew gotten back yet?” He asked, his voice carrying loudly enough that Drew could hear him very faintly. Someone else answered him while Drew resumed his shouting and shoving. He pressed at the stomach walls with everything he had, pounding his fists, kicking his legs, ramming his head… He tried anything and everything he could think of, but nothing seemed to be working…
“Cooper!” He shouted, trying to point himself in the direction he had heard the voice. “COOPER! I’m in here… Please help! Ethan ate me! He ATE me! Help… you gotta help…”
He slumped along the curved side of the wall, almost dizzy with the effort. He listened intently, trying to pick out Cooper’s voice among the cacophony of Ethan’s body and the casual conversations out around them. Ethan himself was chatting, and he didn’t sound as if he was trying to explain away a shouting squirming lump in his gut…
It wasn’t working… What else could he possibly do? He shouted again, resuming the same pleas every few seconds for as long as he could manage. Ethan seemed completely unphased, the scenario progressing without any sort of commotion out among the others… He had to get out of here… He had to get the others to notice him…
A wet thump against his upper back startled him, making his knees slip out from under him as he plopped down onto his chest. He reached behind him, feeling a pile of mush against his fur. Drew grimaced, wiping it off and hearing it slop down into the juices before another glop trickled down over his head from above.
Drew sputtered, holding his arms over his head like an umbrella as he realized what was going on…
Dinner had started… They were all already eating without him. How long had it been? The time all blended together in his mind, he was quickly running out of chances…
More food fell, raining bits of meat and veggies atop him. Drew kept wiping it off, trying not to think of himself as just more food in Ethan’s belly as the cramped chamber filled up even more. The fluids around him felt thicker as the globs of meat and liquids and chyme pooled in around him. He thumped against the walls yet again, trying to shout out but feeling his voice dwindle away before he could emit a sound…
At this rate… His fate was sealed…
Ethan savored the taste of the steak on his tongue, idly thinking about how much better Drew had tasted.
Well… Tasted might not be the best word. The experience had set off more than his taste buds. It had been thrilling. It made him feel powerful. And the sensation of his own friend sliding down his throat alive and kicking was one he would not soon forget.
Walking back out among the party had been practically terrifying. Every thump and push from inside his guts made him feel exposed, like he’d be caught any second, but no one else around him seemed any the wiser. Drew pushed and fought harder than he would have thought possible, the little guy’s voice just barely noticeable to Ethan’s ears when he put his heart into it…
But he knew what to listen for… what to feel for… The others weren’t giving his squirming guts any mind. They had no reason to look at his stomach… to see the faint movement beneath his fur that was their friend.
Drew was his… All his.
He swallowed bite after bite of dinner, wondering with glee what that was doing to little Drew in his belly. He made sure to sample a little of everything so the hyena would get a nice variety down there. Meat, potatoes, wine, salad, asparagus, bread… it all went down to join his first course. Ethan ate happily, surrounded by his friends… Drew’s friends… and waited for any of them to discover the secret tucked away inside him.
There was one moment. Ethan had leaned back, patting his gut absentmindedly and taking a swig of his beverage, when Drew let out a particularly loud plea inside him. Cooper, sitting right adjacent to Ethan, had turned towards him. Ethan’s heart raced, pounding nervously in his chest as the lion scanned him, eyes landing briefly on his stomach as the dalmatian gave it another couple of pats, before seeming to shrug it off and turn his attention elsewhere.
Ethan sighed with relief, almost able to swear that Drew and had been visibly moving around in there when Cooper was looking. They hyena was certainly maintained his energy longer than Ethan had been expecting. His stomach had been bouncing along almost constantly since he had swallowed the little snack. It felt… rather exhilarating, and he honestly could not get enough of it.
He leaned back again, making sure his gut was visible to anyone at the table who bothered to look. None did, but he was nothing if not fair to Drew. The conversation turned to the hyena more times than once, as the others took to calling him and peeking out windows to see if he was going to return any time soon.
Ethan just grinned, stifling a short belch and letting it out as a sigh as he rubbed his plump stomach up and down. Their friend was right here with them, tucked quietly away inside Ethan’s belly. And no one had any idea.
Drew had no idea how long it had been.
The conversations around him had shifted and changed more times than he could count. He thrashed and shouted whenever he heard his own name, knowing that the others out there were looking for him, desperately hoping they would chance upon Ethan’s gut at the right time and demand the dalmatian release him…
But dinner was certainly over now. The thick stew of food had risen up to Drew’s lower chest, and it took a great deal of effort on his part to keep himself from being submerged in the putrid slop with every movement the dog made.
“Guysss….” He said, not nearly loud enough to be heard, but he was beyond exhausted now and his throat was getting sore from all the shouting. “Guys I’m in here…”
The distant sounding murmurs continued on, none the wiser of what was happening inside Ethan’s gut. Drew sloshed through the flood of dinner-sludge, grimacing as his body pushed aside some larger chunks of meat and veggies before reaching the slick fleshy wall. He took in a deep breath, the stench completely unavoidable, and tried to keep himself still.
He leaned on the wall, doing everything in his power to rest up and build whatever energy he could. He was going to get out… He had to get out! If he could just wait for the perfect moment… But he’d need his energy. Squirming and shouting while Ethan enjoyed his dinner (well… second dinner) had done nothing. Everyone else must have been too focused on their own food. He’d get his chance. He just had to focus.
The world around him kept mostly still for a while longer yet. A couple small plops of food sliding down into Ethan’s belly echoed behind him, the dalmatian likely taking only a very small portion of dessert as he was wont to do. Drew used the moment of relative calm to slowly rake his fingers through his fur, pushing the buildup of slime and food off of his body and dripping down into the thick lake beneath him.
He could feel himself sweating under his fur. Damn but it was hot in here! The dalmatian’s stomach had the effect of a sauna, only he just couldn’t leave and get some fresh air. A loud and deep thud made the slimy wall spasm in front of him. Drew gasped in alarm, pushed away from where he was leaning for a short moment before he regained his balance.
Ethan patted his stomach, his paw thumping against Drew from the other side of layers and layers of flesh. Drew grit his teeth, resisting the urge to take this moment to shout for help again.
He needed to wait… Wait for the perfect moment…
He gasped as the stomach suddenly lurched to the side. He lost his footing and fell down into the thick slop again. Groaning and gagging as he pushed himself back up. Ethan was on the move. Was this the moment? Should he wait any longer?
He held as motionless as possible, still feeling exhausted from earlier efforts but not as weak as he had before resting up. He held his arms to the side, paws pushing against the belly walls and helping him keep steady as Ethan stood up tall. The violent shifting ceased, and was replaced by slowly rhythmic motions. The same ones he had felt after Ethan had first swallowed him.
He was walking.
“..ell, it…. s nice se…g …u …gain m…” A voice mumbled somewhere high up above him. Was that Cooper’s voice?
“Yeah you too!” Ethan said, the rumble sounding crystal clear by comparison. He… he was leaving!
This was the moment… If he wasn’t discovered right this very minute, he would be out of chances. He took in a deep breath as Cooper started talking again, and let out the loudest shout that he could physically manage. He leaned back away from the front of Ethan’s stomach, launching himself forward and slipping on the slick floor of his belly. He stumbled awkwardly, pushing himself right back up and trying again.
Drew heaved on the stomach wall, pushing and shoving and kicking to try to make some kind of visual cue to his friends that he was trapped in here. Ethan’s stomach pushed back, but he did not let up. Drew yelled for Cooper, for anyone, even for Ethan as he pushed against the folds. He squeezed his face up tight to the side of the wall, yelling in such a way that the meat muffled his calling, though he hoped it made it louder for those outside.
The slow movements of Ethan’s body started up again, and he redoubled his efforts.
“Cooper! COOPER! Come on! GET ME OUT OF HEEEERREEEE!!!” He shouted, holding onto that last word for as long as he could while the stomach rocked and sloshed along. He slumped down, his back to the side of Ethan’s belly, and waited, hoping that his efforts had done something… Anything…
What he heard instead was the sound of a car door closing shut.
The silence that followed it was deafening. Was… was that what he thought it was? Did that mean… Did that mean he lost? Drew took in another deep breath, hoping that there was still someone out there who could hear him, when he was interrupted.
“Well… That’s the party.” Ethan said, his voice clear as day, echoing down to him in a different way than it had before…. Like he was in a more enclosed space.
“Gotta say little guy… Cooper almost had you there.” He said, “I could have sworn he saw what you were doing. I certainly could… but I guess I knew what to listen for huh?”
He paused, his belly jostling a bit as he moved around out in the outside world. Drew held on, slumped to his knees as he considered what was going to happen next… “But after all that… No one could find you. You could keep trying it you want, but there’s a car door and about twenty feet of open air between you and salvation now.”
His friend patted his belly again, rubbing deep this time and making the slimy walls churn up against Drew’s tiny soaked body. He heard a soft whine escape from his lips, and he knew there was no reason to keep trying to get the others’ attention. He… he was all Ethan’s now.
“Out of chances my little Drew… Looks like you’re coming home with me.”
Ethan laid his paw down on his plumped-up belly, feeling Drew wriggle around inside him. He took a few nice deep breaths, having been unable to properly enjoy the sensation when he had been putting on airs back inside. His prey wasn’t quite as lively as he had been at the beginning of the night, but as full as Ethan was feeling now that was probably a good thing.
The small pushes and stretched inside him kept up, like a tiny little massage ticking at his belly here and there. It made him grin, almost making his mouth water again.
Ethan let his seat slide a little further away from the wheel than he usually sat, needing a bit more room this time. He pulled his seatbelt on and let the strap press down over his gut, squishing Drew down even tighter as he got himself comfortable.
He started the car and turned off the music so he could keep hearing the occasional sound from down below. His car backed away, sliding along Cooper and Drew’s driveway as the lion stood out in the doorway, waving goodbye to another friend that was just leaving. Ethan lowered the window just enough for his paw to stick outside, waving to one of the hosts in farewell while the other churned away.
Cooper returned the wave with a smile as Ethan rode past, leaning back and letting out a short sigh.
One paw on the wheel. One paw on his belly. The dalmatian’s tongue lolled out the side of his mouth as he grinned, letting the air whip against his ears as he started the drive back home. His friend shifted around inside him, dragged along for the ride.
“Mine.” Ethan whispered out into the night. “All mine.”
