Art of Destruction

Author: ~Lyra Source: Art of Destruction

If only one person could stop. Think. And observe. To behold the calm beauty of Tømmer on a crisp April afternoon, a beauty spot that captured the imaginations of many. It could only be an artist painting the lively scene on the plaza of the small lundgårds lake. How ironic to be perfecting a scene that surely countless students have adapted in their own vision before him, next to the shadow the museum of Scandi Painters, no less.

Only a man who's eye has studied all the details, nearing completion of a scene most perfect, could notice anything which strays from what is deemed ordinary. Spending the better half of the day standing before the easel, contemplating every line and considering every angle, applying motion to a static painted fountain.

Though the ever motionless traffic of pedestrians going about their day through the small plaza will pay no heed nor attention to the ornately spraying fountain central of the lake, the artist is most perplexed when the low pressure jet is cut off, and his neatly referenced fountain is no more.

Striking a pose of frustration, a perfect scene now uncalibrated! A dispatch of birds from all the surrounding trees catches his attention, there goes his beautiful ambient background of chirping amongst the idle chatting of people. Is everything just going to go wrong for his idealistic moment of artistic brilliance!?

Furrowing his brow to the settled waters of the lake, the aspiring perfectionist notices a ripple emanate from the walled borders which give the lake its near heptagonal shape. As if a tremor had pulsed from the ground into the lake towards its center. Another follows, this time with an audible thud.

A thoom echoes across the entirety of Tømmer Port, capturing the human's attention to the distant horizon westwards, confused and shocked people stop and look around towards this ominous disturbance. There was no definitive source, and no clue as to what could create such a rumble. Avalanches have a similar thoom, yet the mountains are devoid of all snow.

Another ripple flows from the walls of the lake this time with notable ground effect. Enough so that a symphony of car alarms echo into the ornately tight streets of this trivial little town and is felt beneath the feet of all those who stop and stare. Some hurry away from where they stood in any direction, on their phones, looking all around.

It really didn't take long.

Adding to the choir, people point, they stare, they run, they SCREAM. Kari cradles himself around the easel and his prized work as people flee in random directions all around him from around the lake's edges, in doing so it offers him prime opportunity to witness a heart stopping being of gargantuan magnitude. Frozen in disbelief the little artist stands and stares at the ominously present figure of a magnificent white beast looming high over the mountain stretches flanking the north of this doomed town.

A canine so large her form waves aside light lingering clouds in the local troposphere. More impressive than the unimaginable scale of this creature, was the fact she was physically moving. The perfectly sculpted body of this titaness notably jolting down as a leg, commits her weight to the Earth, so Kari can see... With a delay the shockwave through the ground blasts underground after the impact, this time quaking buildings, visibly cracking the cemented pebble and stone ground all around the artist's grey nikes.

From the ground he observes this goliath'ess as her body twists in slow motion almost as her left leg begins to shift. That white muscled supertower draws itself further into view over the shallow mountain and her thick arms rise ever so slightly, along with that enormous tail as it is all a fine balancing act. A completely normal action, amplified by hundreds of times to make everything far more apparent.

Awestruck, the young kuntstkaper looks beyond in disbelief as her paw draws over the trees of the Fjellstrekker and the main pad of that paw kicks into the scalped peak with such ferocity it immediately kicks up the earth itself. He gets to witness the explosion of rock and dust as that enormous main pad shunts forth, slamming into the hill, house sized boulders and chunks of neolith hurtle towards the town in random directions, airbourne projectiles which aim for anything they can, hanging in the air slowly due to their shear size. Whilst her clawed toes draw down from their air, crushing the vantage point and hikers overlooking the town from its Northern flanks, these dusty smoking meteorites impact into Tømmer with ferocious energy, plowing through lowset buildings in the historical old town, and wiping out the multi track train station. The bombardment of comparative pebbles decimate wherever they roll into.

Kari, dry in the mouth, has his ears assaulted finally with the terrific roaring of the impacts after a delay. This all happens at such a distance away it takes so long for the thooms to let themselves known, doing untold amounts of damage all beneath the shadow of this colossus. Observing he can see the beast'ess as she peers down onto this miniscule port town as her left foot begins to commit the weight of her body. She is by no means moving slow, but the sheer size of this dog would make it appear as such considering how much there is to take in.

Her clawed toes dig down and her heel reaches the forests beneath, slamming into the terrain. Her marble silver eyes do not watch where she steps, instead she peers upon this lazy little town, now a hive of panic and chaos as she steps onto the mountain. The displacement of her weight would be quite the spectacle as the slopes collapse beneath her. An infinite amount of tonnage transferring into the planet, crushing it down, creating a mulched compaction of rock and soil that causes the mountain to subside like actual sand. The air displacement whipping the forests out like a nuclear blast. The friction of her weight and speed causing rock to physically melt and mix into the muddy substrate. Traffic in the e44 hidden directly beneath her towering body is crushed, the tunnel imploding from above for several hundred meters in both directions. A displacement pulse of air bursts car and bus windows through the motorway tunnels, causing a boom to exhaust out each exit point on both ends as quickly as her foot could crush it down, waving through each manmade tube causing it to rupture in sections and partially collapse in the wake.

Her step is short lived but masterfully devastating as her ankle reaches the original height of the former mountain when the Earth can finally accept her weight. The unnatural landslide formed from the face of this devastation shoves aside the switchback houses and roads before the land rushes down into the oldtown of Tømmer, flowing into it like a river of dry dirt and debris, even around the massive boulderous rocks that were flung down from above.

The mere step is devastating, and above? Her body jolts again as it switches weight from that left leg, to her right. That mountain wasn't even the height of a standard stair step to this destructor of mortal life. Muscular form twisting as the right leg hauls itself forth, adding unprecedented fear into all which observe this chaotic sight.

The quakes of Lyra's powerful approach in the colourful wharf of the medieval harbour district brought all the mortals out of hiding. She cares no longer to look down, directing her gaze ahead to the mountain on the farside of this shielded town.

Fleeing in random patterns on the tight streets, hundreds panic and disperse in any direction as a shadow forbids sunlight, dooming their existence with inescapable power as she brings that paw down. Any who dare look up are greeted with a magnificent dark view of gigantic beans, gravitationally pressed together in the air. A perfect paw with the addition of a heelpad of this plantigrade beast. Mud and trees cannot rain fast enough to match the speed of that impactor.

Spanning the length of 1600ft, that paw mercilessly steps down from her elevation off the mountain, which will create a significantly more devastating slap to the topography than her just simply walking forth. Hurricane-esque winds displace all available air from beneath, not even providing a noticeable cushion for Lyra to pay any attention to for her weight is too strong. Shoving down street furnishings and poles, blowing out windows, flipping traffic, people and trees whip around laughably before the main pad and 4 toes collide with the 7 storey rooftops of the new quarter to the south of the harbour and ultimately to the streets below with detrimental slam.

Followed as quickly by the heel as it plants itself onto the medieval quarter further north. The pulse into the planet is even stronger now. The localized shockwave reversing the tides in the harbour, rippling buildings that cannot take the reverberance collapse at random. The blastwave from the air pressure even mockingly knocks Kari's easel into his dapper looking knitted turtleneck cardigan before collapsing to the ground.

No pleasure even gained as Lyra's weight sinks into the earth and hundreds of actual yet tiny buildings crumple beneath her casual power, her mass cratering that paw deep into the ground, undermining foundations and forcing unassociated buildings to sag, buckle and collapse inwards towards her ruinous foot. In the process of taking her weight, the massive toes splay, fanning outwards. Claws trench into entire blocks of the town from above, and whilst frozen in awe-struck fear, Kari witnesses the only tall building in the town across the lake, completely succumb towards the closest toe as it had spread itself out, it would have been fine otherwise, minus all the windows that had blown out of it on both sides from her impact as the dust settles.

Heart throbbing in the young man's throat, his neck strains, glaring directly up to the apocalyptic canine as her left foot frees itself of the subsided mountain, getting an almighty view of Lyra's impeccable powerful form until her left leg blocks most of it out and that other paw gracefully flies across his entire vision, raining debris as it goes all across untormented parts of the city. Kari infact does not even flinch as a whole Unimog wreck hurtles into the lake along with the wooden remains of a structure, trees, boulders, basically whatever was on that mountain. Debris rains and pebbledashes buildings, breaking windows as he watches that paw aim for a third step. His view totally hidden by the high walls of the art museum and college.

The third step is no less a sabotage on mankind's ability to thrive than the second. As her leg lowers to ready standing upon, it causes her paw to sweep forth before it fully stands down. Clawtips and undersides of 1grit pads shred into buildings and cause all sorts of devastation from the updrafts before that platform crashes into the urbanized terra. Her confident stride hurtles into the dense cluster of civic and residential constructs. Most of which a maximum of 4 or 5 storeys tall until her inner toe finally settle against the elevating 442 route over the Aveien bridge, the immeasurable force creating a zone of devastation enough to blast the vital fjord off its own mounts and her toe alone sends the bridge down into the Amsgårder inlet in seconds whilst people and traffic were desperately trying to flee across its span. The tidal river ripples outward from the epicenter, creating its own tsunami force wave well over 10ft high, causing its own unseen devastation as it softly floods and ravages industry and businesses along the river in both directions even straight out to sea.

Not to discount the thousands that were confusedly escaping the roughly 14 blocks of town that were annihilated flat beneath her paw alone, not including the countless others in the zone of her paw. Not much can be said for a tower crane operator either who got blown out of his cab before the whole structure of the equipment collapsed in the wind, not that it would have survived the inevitable ground quake anyways.

Sinking deep into the soft Norwegian soil and crushing bedrock, her right foot releases from its cradled mangle of the now apocalyptic medieval quarter. Briskly shooting over rooftops with excessive devastation being caused as remnants of concrete, cars, trolleybuses and steel rain off of her pads all across unscathed patches of the town.

The fourth step safely brings Lyra across the river (of only 320ft) without having to get her toes wet as her paw aims squarely for the quaint Amsgårder residential district. Wooden houses had trembled from her previous antics but now they are the freshest mortal offerings to her paw as it slams upon them with merciless weight. Destroying at least 80 dwellings in one go directly from impact, and around 100 other structures just in the vicinity directly. Her paw sinking deep into the ground again on this side of the river due to the foothills of the opposing peak which overlooks Tømmer from the south.

Lyra's paw craters reveal apocalyptic irreversible chaos. Buildings burn with ruptured gas mains, both pawprints steadily start spilling with murky silted waters from the North Sea as she had turned the medieval quarter into a waterfall. Boats gravitate towards the breach point of all sizes, breaking their berths, destruction worsening as the torrent floods the perfect destruction trench. Same for the 442 bridge, even its destroyed remains get swept into the paw crater on that side of town too, further insulting the dead and destroyed as the sea claims some new land for itself amongst the settling dust and vulnerably collapsing buildings.

All Kari can witness is her tail waving its enormous self out of view as she strolls beyond his town whilst the lake drains, hidden sinkholes opening up beneath the city in very random spots as her quaking steps have upset the groundwater substantially. Tømmer a mere inconvenience to her uninterrupted aimless stride through the Norwegian fjords, aimed possibly for greater areas to destroy beyond its ruined shores.
